So far, the Applied Language Studies House educational organisation has organised successful international conferences such as the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th International conferences on Language Education and Research (in Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion, Greece) and the 1st Symposium on Language Education and Research in London.
21 presenters from 16 countries and 15 higher education institutions will contribute to this event.
The theme of the 2nd Symposium on Language Education and Research is: Pathway to progress: Teaching Innovation and Inspiration Interchange and its subthemes: Emerging technologies, best practices in innovative methodologies, curriculum and materials design and development, language assessment. This conference is an important event because the contribution of cultural values in teaching adds or should add to the different ways of using the language functions or other aspects of language. Secondly, studying language variation may guide language development activities. Thirdly, the need for the provision of adequate resources such as ESL/EFL textbooks to accommodate all the learners, reducing the teacher-learner ratio in the classrooms, organising capacity building workshops for ESL teachers, and changing the medium of instruction for all grades might be considered one of the most significant areas for discussion. Last but not least, the intrusion of AI and further educational tools based on technology in language education is creating a new environment for teachers and learners.
So far we have given more than 230 presenters from all around the world (from more than 100 universities and more than 75 countries) the opportunity to disseminate their research findings through our international conferences; great academicians and authors such as Prof David Crystal (Emeritus Professor University of Bangor), Prof Mike McCarthy (Cambridge University), Prof Suzanne Flynn (MIT), Prof Douglas Biber (N.Arizona University), Kathleen Graves (University of Michigan), Scott Thornbury (Editor of Cambridge University Press), Adrian Underhill (Editor of Macmillan Education) and great Greek HEI professors and researchers such as Dora Alexopoulou (Cambridge University Research Centre), Prof Marina Mattheoudakis, Prof Eleni Agathopoulou, and Prof Thomais Alexiou (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki) have contributed to our conferences so far.
This 2nd Symposium on Language Education and Research promises opportunities for the continuous development of educators, academicians and researchers. The conference will involve ministry people, EFL teachers, academicians, researchers and students from Greece and around the world.
