Welcome to SLER2027

The 3rd Symposium on Language Education and Research (SLER2027) brings together researchers, academics, language educators, teacher educators, postgraduate students, and education professionals from around the world to exchange ideas, share research, and explore current and emerging directions in language education.

Under the theme “Language Education in Transition: Research, Pedagogy and Innovation in a Changing World,” SLER2027 will provide a dynamic forum for dialogue around the evolving relationship between research and practice, including developments in language teaching and learning, applied linguistics, teacher education, assessment, multilingualism, inclusion, digital pedagogy and artificial intelligence.

Taking place on 6–7 March 2027 at the UNESCO Amphitheatre, University of Nicosia, Cyprus, the symposium will be delivered in a hybrid format, enabling both onsite and online participation and encouraging international exchange across geographical and disciplinary boundaries.

Through research presentations, invited talks, workshops, poster presentations and opportunities for professional networking, SLER2027 aims to foster meaningful connections between research, pedagogy and innovation while creating an inclusive space for established and emerging voices in the field.

The 3rd Symposium on Language Education and Research (SLER2027) invites researchers, academics, language educators, teacher educators, postgraduate and doctoral students, and education professionals from around the world to submit proposals for presentation at the symposium, taking place on 6–7 March 2027 at the University of Nicosia, Cyprus, and online.

Under the theme “Language Education in Transition: Research, Pedagogy and Innovation in a Changing World,” SLER2027 seeks to explore how language education is responding to rapidly changing educational, technological, linguistic and social contexts.

The symposium aims to create an international forum in which research and professional practice can inform one another. We particularly welcome contributions that critically engage with current challenges, report original research, examine innovative pedagogical practices, or offer new perspectives on the teaching, learning and use of languages.

 

Conference Themes

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following areas:

  • Language teaching and learning

  • Applied linguistics and language education

  • Second and foreign language acquisition

  • English Language Teaching (ELT) and TESOL

  • Teacher education and continuing professional development

  • Language teacher identity and agency

  • Curriculum and materials development

  • Language assessment and feedback

  • Academic literacies and English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

  • English for Specific Purposes (ESP)

  • Multilingualism and plurilingual education

  • Intercultural communication and competence

  • Inclusive and equitable language education

  • Digital pedagogy and technology-enhanced language learning

  • Artificial intelligence and generative AI in language education

  • AI literacy, ethics and responsible technology use

  • Corpus linguistics and data-informed language teaching

  • Learner autonomy, motivation and engagement

  • Language education policy and educational change

  • Research methodology in language education

  • Innovation in language teaching and teacher development

Interdisciplinary proposals and contributions addressing emerging areas of language education and research are particularly encouraged.

 

Presentation Formats

Research Papers: 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion.

Professional Practice Papers: 20-minute presentation followed by 10 minutes for discussion. These may focus on innovative teaching practices, materials, programmes, teacher development or evidence-informed classroom interventions.

Workshops: Interactive sessions focusing on the practical application of research, pedagogy, methodology or educational technology.

Poster Presentations: Visual presentations of research projects, works in progress, innovative practices or emerging research.

Both onsite and online presentations are welcomed.

 

Abstract Submission

Proposals should include:

  • Title of presentation

  • Abstract of 250–300 words

  • 3–5 keywords

  • Presentation format

  • Author name(s) and affiliation(s)

  • Short biographical statement of approximately 100 words

  • Preferred mode of participation: onsite or online

Abstracts should clearly identify the focus of the presentation, its relevance to language education and/or research, and, where applicable, the methodology, key findings and implications.

All proposals will undergo review for relevance, clarity, academic quality and contribution to the field.

Final Presenter Registration: 31 January 2027
Publication of Final Programme: February 2027
